Who doesn’t LOVE using natural ways to stay healthy and beautiful? I have found it so rewarding to use the natural elements to care for my body! Coconut oil is one of those great elements, with so many great uses. Keep in mind there is the liquid form of coconut oil and the pastier consistency of coconut oil (like shortening). Both are great to use on your body and in your body (it’s totally edible and great for cooking, but today we’re talking about beauty uses). Check your labels for added ingredients or indications it is not JUST coconut oil. You want plain virgin cold-pressed coconut oil. Best not to get it already mixed with other ingredients because then you are limited to what you can use it with and for, and you will lose those wonderful benefits.
I love using all kinds of natural oils. There is also the coconut oil you can get in a jar at most any food market. Let’s explore some of the beauty side of Coconut oil uses:
Starting at the top. Coconut oil is great for your hair, yep you can put it right in your hair. Some people mix it with other beneficial hair oils or fragrances, but coconut oil leaves your hair shiny, strong and soft. – rejuvenating your hair. Just spread plenty of it all over your hair, tie it up in a bun and cover with a shower cap or plastic wrap and set a timer for 20 minutes. Wash it out (it may take a couple of shampoos to get it out), and finish as you normally would. I’ve tried this and it works wonders on frizzy, damaged hair!
Facial care is also a great use for coconut oil. It has great natural nourishing hydration properties. With its antimicrobial properties and moisturizing abilities, coconut oil is perfect for cleaning and moisturizing your face, hydrating skin to keep it looking and feeling vibrant with none of the adverse affects of all those chemicals out there claiming to help but actually doing more damage – none of that with coconut oil!
(DoTerra #10 “Sometimes, facial moisturizers can do more harm than good, causing clogged pores and greasy residue. Use Fractionated Coconut Oil for a powerful moisturizer that will leave your skin looking soft and smooth without clogging pores and leaving oily skin. Fractionated Coconut Oil is also a perfect facial moisturizer for sensitive skin.)
It does not stop there – you can also use it to remove makeup. Used sparingly, you can use cotton balls or cotton rounds. Even works on water-proof makeup – takes away mascara traces under the eyes. You’re getting two in one: makeup remover & skin rejuvenation, and all of it naturally.
We don’t want to forget your great smile. Yes, coconut oil is even good for your mouth. For some, it is too strong, but it is not a new concept to use coconut oil as a mouth wash. Here is a recipe for coconut mouthwash: https://www.healthextremist.com/homemade-natural-mouthwash/ There are a few different recipes, just Google “coconut mouthwash recipes” and look for the one that best fits you. The natural antiviral, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties can take care of bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease.
What’s harmful about store bought mouthwash?” (healthextreamist.com) Most popular mouthwash brands you find at the store contain several toxic ingredients including thymol, hexetidine, and methyl salicylate. There’s also other ingredients that are of concern including synthetic colors and sugars such as green number 3 and sucralose. Due to these harmful ingredients, most mouthwashes are listed as a moderate to high hazard and unfortunately, the chemicals are easily absorbed by your body. (Sad fact: most mouth washes are also tested on animals. Which is another blog topic: coming soon)
These are just a few natural ways to benefit from Coconut oil. There are many more, such as using it as a lotion, or as a massage oil, its so good for your skin (unless you are allergic of course.) It can even be used to shave legs, armpits and bikini line. http://www.activebeat.co/diet-nutrition/15-ways-coconut-oil-can-change-your-life/13/
“Many folks swear by coconut oil as the closest shave yet. Plus, the oil naturally hydrates the skin, so you won’t even have to use moisturizer after you shave, just rub in the oil”.
As much as I love Coconut oil, I want to fully inform you, reminding you that not everything works for everyone. Always try everything with cation until you know it works for you. Coconut oil should be used moderately and sparingly at first, then proceed as you feel works for you.
The list goes on. I have included a few websites that could help you answer any unanswered questions. So, enjoy trying out coconut oil and all its benefits.
